Porsche Design P'6780 Diver

P'6780 Diver is the newest functional watch to be released by Porsche Design. With its handling depths of up to 1000 metres, the P'6780 Diver is created as 'companions through life' for diving-lovers.

The watch astonishes me with its unique case design. At the same time both unorthodox and highly functional, the timepiece's three-part case reveals a hinged container securely anchored within a titanium bridge structure, which can be raised to set the time. This distinctive touch prevents the crown from being inadvertently turned and protects it against damage. Featuring adorable water-resistance to 1000 meters, the watch needs neither a screw-down crown nor a helium release valve thanks to the patented Diver's advanced sealing system. The caoutchouc strap has been also specially designed so it can fit over a diving suit without the folding clasp having to be opened first.

The unique blend of materials featured in the P'6780 Diver is also admirable: the clearly expressed shape is complemented by clous-de-Paris detailing, which extends to the container-release buttons and the crown. The silver-coloured stainless steel container provides a sharp contrast with the anthracite-grey titanium bridge structure, which is also echoed in the folding clasp. In a word, the new diving watch carries the unmistakable signature of Porsche Design – a fusion of two muted tones. There is a vivid yellow arc highlighting the first 15 minutes of the diving time scale, setting a solitary colour for the model.

The ideal timepiece we need underwater must be both reliable and accurate so that the dive can be properly managed. The P'6780 Diver's reliability is guaranteed by themechanical ETA 2892-A2 calibre automatic movement. Beating at 28,800 vph, it offers a power reserve of 42 hours and delivers precise timekeeping. The P'6780 Diver's dial is completed with over-sized hands and large numeric and baton indices with white luminous material, ensuring optimal legibility at all times. The white markings demonstrate a striking contrast to the black dial. Located at 9 o'clock is a date aperture. The watch also employs a flange inscribed with separate minute graduations, which can be used to set the diving time.

Finally, this watch undoubtedly succeeds its predecessor – the famous Ocean 2000 known as the first diving watch by Porsche Design. As a ideal companion for divers, the P'6780 Diver is scheduled for launch in summer 2010.

While preserving the acclaimed external design, the novel Sintra watch is the first model in the collection to house the COSC certificated skeleton movement. It is a Swiss Made watch heart all in black, exclusively developed for Rado. With this striking movement, the originally agile yet robust timepiece highlights an innovative effect that has never been seen before in the collection. Moreover, it helps to demonstrate a unique blend of color for the watch, with the high-tech ceramic case. Highlighting parts of the movement in gold gives the watch vitality and a sharp contrast to the black matt metallization.

111 pieces of the Rado Sintra Skeleton Automatic will be released. Combining technical complexity and understated expression, this extremely refined timepiece is unquestionably today's ultimate luxury.
